US Treasury Mulls Special $1 Trump Coin With ‘Fight, Fight, Fight’ Inscription
Celebrating the semiquincentennial of the United States' independence, the US Treasury is exploring the issuance of a $1 coin depicting former President Donald Trump with a clenched fist under an American flag and the phrase “fight, fight, fight”.
Symbolic Connection
These words overtly refers to what Trump declared immediately after escaping an assassination effort a few months before he won a second presidency.
Official Statement
US Treasurer Beach effectively announced a draft design of the coin on this week via social media, commenting: “No fake news here. These designs marking America’s 250th birthday and [Trump] are authentic.”
The social media post – which highlighted another commentator reacting to the draft design – mentioned that Beach looked “forward to sharing more” after the resolution of the government funding lapse that commenced after Wednesday night when Senate Democrats insisting on changes on health policy and other spending priorities declined to offer the approval necessary to pass a majority-backed budget proposal.
Authorization Context
As reported, in 2020, at the conclusion of his first presidency, Trump signed jointly supported bill empowering the Treasury head to issue $1 coins during the upcoming anniversary year that are “representative of the United States 250th anniversary”.
Features Elements
One side of the coin on whose draft design Beach commented Friday showed Trump’s portrait alongside “Liberty”, “In God We Trust”, and “from 1776 to 2026”.
The other side evoked the assassination attempt at a political rally in Pennsylvania last year, when authorities said a gunman wounded Trump’s ear and injured two others before being shot to death by the US Secret Service.
Trump raised his fist after the attack – one of two efforts on his life for him as he campaign victoriously for a return to the White House in 2024 – and shouted, “Fight, Fight, Fight!” with an national banner looming nearby.
Clarification
A comment from a Treasury representative indicated that the proposal which Beach’s online update discussed was not the “definitive coin design”. But the response asserted that “this draft reflects well the persistent ethos of our country and democratic system, even in the face of significant challenges”.
Political Context
Trump’s popularity on overall has plummeted to low levels, as his second administration has cut medical safeguards and food aid that benefits the needy, while also implementing trade duties that came before a reported surge in cost of living.
Furthermore, the government has also dispatched US military troops into the urban centers of several metropolitan areas, eliminated roughly $500 million in support for vaccines such as the ones that contributed to ending the coronavirus crisis, and had difficulty to manage a scandal over his past friendship with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
