Coach Amorim Pledges He Won't Step Down at Manchester United but Acknowledges Sack Awaits Should Performances Don't Get Better

Ruben Amorim has stated emphatically that he will not step down from his role in spite of the club's ongoing struggles, but he concedes that he faces the sack if performances fail to improve.

Current Challenges and Table Standing

Amorim has collected only 34 points in 33 Premier League games, and Manchester United now placed in 14th place in the standings after a 15th-place finish the previous campaign. The Red Devils have managed only two victories from their opening seven fixtures this season, which includes an early Carabao Cup exit against Grimsby Town and last weekend's loss against Brentford. This outcome prolonged Amorim's search to secure his first back-to-back league victories after taking over nearly a year ago.

This Saturday, Sunderland will visit the Theatre of Dreams, where a further loss would heighten the pressure facing the Portuguese coach.

The Manager's Stance Regarding Resignation

Questioned on whether he think about quitting, Amorim stated: “No, that's a decision for the directors. I won't do that. Sometimes I have those thoughts and losing is hard, failing to build positive momentum. It is deeply disappointing when you create the momentum, go to the following match, something happens. That feeling sometimes hurts me deeply. It impacts the squad and especially the staff here. Yet it isn't my choice and I believe it'd be really hard to walk away unless I haven't given everything to follow my career at United.”

“It is an honor to manage here and I want to stay here and I'm determined to battle for this. But the issue now that causes me pain is to lose matches, not the fear of losing my job. You fear losing your job when you have to cover expenses but I don't have that feeling.”

Defending His Formation Tactics

Amorim additionally launched an impassioned defense of his three-at-the-back formation, which has been the focus for plenty of scrutiny. Amorim has deployed the formation consistently yet it has so far failed to deliver the consistency desired.

“Nobody at the club is naive,” Amorim commented. “We know that the team must win to advance the project. We'll reach a point where it's impossible for everyone because United is a very big institution with many partners, under dual ownership. So it’s hard, managing expectations is very difficult. My aim is for my team – winning or losing – playing consistently but we're failing to do so.”

He pointed out that United used various formations with past coaches, yet to no avail. “We must to play with consistency, with the same power, with the same energy, with the same focus. If we do that, it doesn’t matter what the system is.”

Plans Regarding Mid-Season Exhibition Matches

Amorim announced plans to arrange high-revenue winter exhibition games to help increase revenue lost due to failing to qualify for European competition. “We must organize these and we knew it after missing out on Europe,” he explained. “We owe it to our fans and financial needs and we want to be with our fans around the world.”

Tribute to Manchester Incident

Manchester United will observe a minute’s silence on Saturday and the players will wear black armbands as a mark of tribute following the terrorist attack at a Manchester synagogue earlier this week. Local rivals City will do likewise during their Premier League and women's matches over the coming days.
